Video Review

The Lowdown on Lowbrow: West Coast Pop Art was an interesting movie.   I have never heard this type of artwork referred to as lowbrow.  In the beginning of the movie many different artists were asked to describe what lowbrow was and all artists had difficult time doing so.  Lowbrow was first used to create images of nude women or used to design hot rod vehicles.  It was also interesting to learn about the representation of tiki sculptors and how they orginiated from WWII.  Also learning about the creation of cd or record covers was interesting.  I never thought about the creation of a cover being a specific type of art.  Displaying Modern Art: The Tate Approach was also an interesting video.  The museum focused on in this video is one of the most popular museums in the world and more than 4 million people have visited it.  There is no charge to enter this gallery so many more people visit.  This museum displays many pieces of international modern art.  Also in this video the narrator describes the 4 types of art: landscape, still life, history and nude.  Bones of Contention: Native American Archaeology was an interesting video to watch but it was not as interesting as the other videos.  One of the artists in the video describe the lives of Native Americans as being treated like toys not humans.  In the United States there are 10,000 Native American archaeological sites.  It was also interesting to learn that a specific area was found to have a history of arthritis.  Also I found it interesting that for those who dug up the bodies of Native Americans were able to determine that bodies were painted and people whom were shot.  Finally, George Eastman House: Picture Perfect was the most interesting video this week.  The video refers to Eastman as Mr. Kodak because he invented the Kodak camera.  Eastman owned a home in Rochester, NY that after he passed away was turned into a museum to display his artwork and have it as a memorial to him.  It was also interesting in the video how he used such known things in this area in his artwork such as Niagara Falls.  Also, it was interesting to learn about his intervention of the camera in 1888.

Although these four videos were all different aspects of art, the only video that can relate to my project of Art Exhibition is the video about George Eastman.  The reason that this video can be related to my project is because of the use of photography.  In other aspects of his artwork will not be displayed in my exhibition.  The other videos are about historical art or music. But in my exhibition I will be discussing more modern art and art in respect of nature and people.

However, these video did help me think of ideas for my project and they ways I wanted to portray other people art in my exhibition.  As always video's give me a better understanding of the concepts we are learning for the week.  Although these videos were not exactly the type of artwork I want to use to create my exhibition, they allowed me to think in other directions to find the information and artwork I want to display.
